John Preston Carpenter Obituary
John Preston Carpenter, 78, of Morehead City, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026. He was born on June 23, 1948, to the late Preston Arnold and Elnora Sparks Carpenter in Franklin County, North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean Champion and Arnola Gilliam, and his brother, Harvey Carpenter.
John is survived by his children, Tara Carpenter Copeland (Marc) and Andrew Preston Carpenter (Lauren); his sister, Mindy Vick; the mother of his children, Suzanne Carpenter; six grandchildren, Abagail, McKayla, Bethany, Charlotte, Nathaniel, and Elouise; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
John was a graduate of Louisburg High School and proudly served in the United States Army, including service in Vietnam. He was a mechanical engineer by trade and retired from Tyco Electronics after more than 25 years of service.
John enjoyed watching movies and taking walks on the beach. He especially enjoyed watching and supporting his grandchildren at their sporting events and recitals. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends and visitors on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. at Lancaster Funeral and Cremation Services, 804 N. Bickett Blvd., Louisburg, NC. Burial with military honors will follow at Bunn Memorial Gardens.
