He was predeceased by: his parents, Horatio Bristol II and Hazel Surratt Bristol; his adoptive mother Bernice Mooney Friday; and his brother Horatio Bristol III. He is survived by: his wife Doris; his children, Deaconess Tiera Bristol, Pastor LaTrese Lyerly (Antonio) and Max Bristol II; his siblings, Sandra Bristol, Sherry McLaurin Bristol, Rebecca Davis (Lauren), James Bristol (Catrina), Herbert Bristol (Harriet) and Johnny Bristol (Francine); his uncle Johnny Surratt; his brother-in-law Shaun Norman; and his grandchildren, Grecyn, Logan Max, Tegon Lyerly, Bradley Dorsey and Princess TiJhae Summers.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church, New Hope in Christ Baptist Church, PO Box 101, Morganton, NC 28680 in Max's memory.
