He was predeceased by: his parents, Coy Buff and Minnie Cook Buff; his former wife Janet Fowler Buff; and his sisters, Sue Buff Fowler and Floy Buff Grubb.

He is survived by: his wife Edna D. Golding Buff; his son Lynn Buff (Karen) of Nashville, TN; his siblings, Mozelle Buff Wilson, Mae Buff Morrow, Doris Jean Buff Edge and Doug Buff; his stepchildren, Lynn Golding Cash of Blowing Rock, Sandy Golding Bolick (Clay) of High Point, Angela Golding of Morganton and Dr. Jay Golding of Summerfield, NC; and his stepgrandchildren, Josh Cash (Jenna), Jenny Cash Bryk (Cory), Jamie Cash Glover (Sam), Mandy Bolick Butler (Reid), Kelly Bolick, Austin Golding, Elle, Elise and Emerson Golding. He is also survived by twelve step-great-grandchildren.
