He was predeceased by : his parents, Rastus Nelson and Virginia Dare Colvard Nelson; his brothers, Benny Ray Nelson, Vernon Edward Nelson and James Ervin Nelson; and his half-siblings, Jack Nelson, Jim Nelson, R. B. Nelson and Georgie Nelson.

He is survived by : his daughter Katrina Beth Burns (Justin Wayne Jones); his grandchildren, Jordan Michelle Andrews, Collin Dale Andrews and Jackson Lee Burns; and his siblings, Randy Nelson (Rosezean), Mary Jane Barnes and Judy N. Summerow (Tracy).
