He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus Albert and Lena Ervie Smith Simmons; his brother Victor Simmons; and his grandparents, Hersey "Bill" Simmons, Sadie Alice Chilton Simmons, Robert Reed Smith and Eva Sarah Hartman Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia "Patty" Sloan Simmons; his daughter Christy Simmons Cassell; his son-in-law Chad; his grandson Avery Cassell; and his siblings, Lana Covington (Paul), Pattie (Paul Scott), Randy Simmons (Melanie) and Alan Simmons (Sherri).
Visitation was held on Tuesday, September 23rd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Asbury Presbyterian Church (1084 Flippin Road, Mt Airy, NC 27030). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 23rd 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Tuesday, September 23rd 2025 from 12:15 PM to 1:15 PM at the same location.
