He is survived by: his wife Wanda Shumate Byrd; his children, Darrell Byrd Jr. (Stephanie), Randy Byrd (Janet) and Bryanna Johnson (Marty); and his grandchildren, Randy Byrd, Brandi Byrd, Jacob Flinchum (Haley), Garrett Flinchum, Marissa Johnson, Cody Byrd (Olivia) and Rev. Levi Byrd (Elizabeth). He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
