He was predeceased by: his parents, Billy Lee Buchanan and Emma Jean Childress Buchanan; and his brother Douglas Ray Buchanan. He is survived by: his wife Pamela Smith Buchanan of Mt. Airy; his daughters, Amanda Buchanan (Jarel Duncan) of Statesville and April Buchanan of Winston Salem; his siblings, Leila Compton of Mt. Airy, Debbie Ervin (Dan) and Darryl Buchanan (Kim) of Orlando, FL; and his brothers-in-law, Orville Jr. Smith and Fulce "Fuzzy" Smith (Jamie) of Mt. Airy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
