He was predeceased by: his parents, George Ewart and Cleta Nell Wilborn Rives. He is survived by: his wife Cathy Bagnal Rives; his children, Catherine Rives Maines (Timmy), Ike Rives, Robbie Rives (Carolyn) and Will Rives; his granddaughter Beverly Claire Rives; his brother David; and his sister-in-law Marinda Rives.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shepherd's House 227 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
