He was predeceased by: his parents, Swanson Monroe and Effie Fannie Parker Mayes; his brothers, Swanson Leon Mayes and Nathaniel "Buck" Mayes; and his brother-in-law Danny Hooker.
He is survived by: his son Roderic "Rod" Mayes (Rebecca Lowe); his siblings, Linda Hooker, Sylvia Hayden and Wayne; and his sister-in-law Tammy Jo Mayes. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.
