He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry Thompson and Notie Alice Puckett Thompson; his wife Virginia Montgomery; and his siblings, Mattie Young, May Belle Smith, Mildred Glenn (Joe Pell), Alvis, Lawrence, Benton, Fred, Ralph and Claude Thompson.
He is survived by: his sister-in-law Jinky Montgomery; his son Turner Thompson; his daughter-in-law Linda; his grandchildren, Adam Thompson (Kayla) and Aimee Thompson Culler (Michael); his great grandchildren, Fallon Elise Culler, Dalton Turner Culler and Sadie Mae Thompson; and his niece Patsy Newsome-Crant.
Visitation was held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Moody Funeral Services (206 W Pine St, Mt Airy, NC 27030). A funeral service was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Moody's Chapel (206 W Pine St, Mt Airy, NC 27030). A burial was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Oakdale Cemetery (1500 N Main St, Mt Airy, NC 27030).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to some of Turner's favorite charities: St. Jude's Hospital, Shriner's Hospital, the Appalachian Christian Project, the Disabled American Veterans, or Salem Fellowship Church of Mount Airy, NC.
