He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Smith and Virginia Allen Smith; his wife Beauton "Boots" Smith; his children, Kathy Morris and Joey Smith; his son-in-law Randy Morris; and his brothers, Jerry and Charles Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Diane Smith of Mount Gilead, Tony Smith (Jennifer) of Mount Gilead, Debbie Herman (Thomas) of Newton and Darlene Russell (Anthony) of Troy; his sister Suetta Kaynor (Robert) of Durham; his sister-in-law Virginia Smith of Lumberton; and his grandchildren, Todd Smith (Pam), Heather Jones (John), Lori Beth Robbins (Aaron), Russell (Lisa), Jarred Smith (Kim), Emily Lloyd (Derek), Glenn Herman (Lexis) and Jessica Hatley (Ashton). He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
