He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry Hartness, Sr. and Viola Hartness; his siblings, Gail Hartness, Wanda Smith, Roy Hartness and Johnny Hartness; and his son-in-law Arthur Allen.

He is survived by: his wife Debra Hartness; his daughters, Caroline Beck and Amanda Allen; his son-in-law Rob Beck; his granddaughters, Syndey Beck, Xander Allen and Milly Allen; his brother Jim Hartness; and his siblings-in-law, Sue Hartness and Ernie Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
