He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Smith and Mattie Schronce Smith; his wife Peggy Joyce Rash Smith; his sons, John Allen Smith and Charles Douglas Smith; and his siblings, Barbara Smith Greene, Georgina Ann Smith Brackett, Reba Deloris Smith Keller and Ray Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Deborah Lynn Smith Bone (Belinda King) and William David Smith (Michelle); his grandchildren, Tabatha Renee Smith, Andrew Taylor Bone (Kimberly), Tammy Stroud, Angela Maynor (Tim), Elizabeth Dean (Joseph), Lydia Smith, Samantha Dawn Smith, Ashley Marie Smith, Leanna Sue Smith, Joseph Smith, Michelle Raines, Chrissy Watts and Richard Brackett; his sisters, Estelle Lee and Brenda Taylor; and his nieces, Tracy Greene Sutton, Cheri Greene and Crystal Greene Beaver. He is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren.
