He was predeceased by: his parents, Edmund Vincent Bender and Geraldine Hepke Bender. He is survived by: his wife Carrina Shay Bender; his sons, Kyle J. Bender (Marisa L. Olague) of Bridgeport and Erich S. Bender (Lindsey M. Bender) of Groveland, Florida; and his sister Pamela Eschik of Fuquay-Varina.
