He was predeceased by: his siblings, George Pate of Hopewell and Linda Santmier of Richmond, Virginia.; and his parents, Louis Milford Pate, Sr. and Mary Best Pate. He is survived by: his wife Joyce Garner Pate; his children, Lisa Rosen (Lee), Louis "Chip" Pate III (Catherine) and Frances Hill (James); his grandchildren, Toby Rosen, Lane Rosen, Aubrey Hill, Brynn Pate, Emilia Pate, Sabine Pate, Wesley Hill and Norah Pate; and his sister Beth Pate Perkinson of Richmond, Virginia..
