He is survived by: his wife Kay Mitchell Thomas of Murfreesboro, NC; his children, Faye Obenschain (Jeff) of Harrisonburg, VA, Hal R. Thomas Jr. of Rocky Mount, NC, Jennifer Mitchell of Richmond, VA and Christina Mitchell (Fernando Zuniga) of Murfreesboro, NC.; his grandchildren, Claudia, Julia "JJ" Obenschain of Harrisonburg, VA, Camila and Elena Zuniga of Murfreesboro, NC.; and his siblings, Patricia Ann Thomas-Jones (David), A. G. "Cag" Thomas IV (Suzanne), Michael Wayne Thomas (Beth) and Steven Boyce Thomas.
