It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gary Tillman Crump of Murphy, North Carolina, born in Columbia, South Carolina, who passed away on April 28, 2022, at the age of 70, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Crump and Lella Dee Colley Crump; and his sister Donna Lewis. He is survived by: his wife Karen Crump; his children, Lisa Andres (Chris) of Simpsonville, Rebecca Duecker of Chapin, Troy Crump (Michelle) of Prosperity and Jonathan Shealy of Lexington; his siblings, Debbie Cromer (Jerry) of North Augusta, David Crump (Jeanne) of Chapin and Gwin Crump (Wendy) of Chapin; his grandchildren, Austin Crump, Reagan Crump, Austen Collins, Mia Russo, Riley Andres, Blaise Andres, Eliana Duecker and Samantha Duecker; and his great grandchildren, Maggie Crump, Brenleigh Barr and Beau Collins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Gary Tillman Crump to the First United Methodist Church, Murphy, PO Box 86, Murphy, NC 28906 or the American Cancer Society at http://www.cancer.org, PO Box 42040, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-3000.

“Gary and I worked together at the Univ. of SCPD. I was a Senior in the Criminal Justice College and several of us worked as Constables. He taught by example. There was not anything that seemed to get him down. Gary respected everyone. I went on to a long career in Law Enforcement starting as a Police Officer in Atlanta GA and retiring as an FBI Agent. Gary helped pave that career path for me. He was an EXCELLENT role model and friend. I still hear his laugh and see his smile.......LSB”

Gary was such a friend to me and to SPI the last years that I was Director. He shared his knowledge and, along with Fred Lemmond, was the institutional knowledge for each Board meeting that we held. I am honored to be his friend for the last 18 years. I once spoke of Gary to a Church Congregation in the Bronx, NY. To the worshipers I said that he was a man of dedication (police officer), courage (cancer survivor) and great Christain faith. Gary was truly all that and then some.
