Helen Louise Dick Obituary
Helen Louise Dick, 80 of Murphy, North Carolina formerly of Plymouth, Massachusetts, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, after a brief stay in Hospice Care at Murphy Rehabilitation and Nursing. Born on June 13, 1945, in Randolph, Massachusetts to George and Elenor Cox, she was pre-deceased by her parents; her husband Stuart L. Dick of Plymouth, Massachusetts; and her son Kevin C. Murphy of Whitman, Massachusetts; Kevin is survived by his wife Cristin, and their children. Helen was also pre-deceased by her sisters, Joan Fournier of Hudson, Florida, and Janet Maguire of Middleboro, Massachusetts. She leaves behind her daughter Dawn Mullaney of Plymouth, Massachusetts, along with several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and many close friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
Before retiring, Helen worked at the Kingston Animal Hospital in Kingston, Massachusetts where she showed compassion and dedication in her work of assisting veterinarians and caring for animals. Later in her career, she continued her lifelong commitment to help others as a Certified Nursing Assistant; caring for residents at The Cove School in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Upon retiring from The Cove School in 2014, Helen moved to Murphy, North Carolina seeking a peaceful life immersed in nature and the beauty of the surrounding mountains. She found joy in sitting on her front porch watching her favorite deer and local wildlife wander through her fields, and listening to the many songbirds greeting her as they visited her feeders each day.
In her early years, Helen's deep love of animals inspired her to begin breeding dogs as a hobby; one that soon earned her notable success and the respect of her peers. Helen received recognition from the American Kennel Club for her standard Poodles, and most notably she was highly recognized for breeding AKC Championship Miniature American Eskimo Dogs under the kennel name "Kandias American Eskimos.". Many of Helen's dogs earned Blue-Ribbons and Championship Titles in Agility Competitions, in Best of Show, Best of Winners, and Bred‐by Exhibitor classes. Her most renowned dogs, Princess Katina, Kat-man Do, and Kat Blue stood out among her most cherished Champions, reflecting the exceptional quality of her breeding program and her steadfast commitment to AKC standards until she retired from breeding dogs in 2015.
Helen was also a gifted painter and a woman of many talents. She enjoyed horseback riding, gardening, genealogy research, reading books, axe throwing, target practice, hand‐spinning yarn, crochet, sewing, beadwork, and jewelry making—always creating meaningful gifts for those she loved. Above all, she treasured time spent with her beloved four‐legged companions, including her horses Two-Feathers, Blue, and Pie, along with the many animals who held a special place in her heart. Proud of her Native American heritage, Helen ensured that her traditions were shared with her loved ones and the communities she served. Known as "Yellow Hawk Spirit" within the Native American community, she was a former council elder on the Dighton‐Rehoboth Intertribal Indian Council in Dighton, Massachusetts and she was a singer on the Wolf Tail Drum before moving to North Carolina. Helen—Yellow Hawk Spirit—was vibrant and strong spirited with a generous soul. Her presence will be deeply missed not only by those who loved her, but by the many people whose lives were touched by her radiant energy, enthusiasm, compassion, and kindness. May her spirit be remembered always, and continue to live on through the countless lives she uplifted and inspired. A Celebration of Life will be held and announced at a later date.
