He was predeceased by: his parents, Butler Carter and Lucy Kephart Carter; his wife Loretta Coleman Carter; and his brother Ralph Carter. He is survived by: his daughters, Barbara Carter Cruse (Jimmy Messer), Rebecca Carter Mathis and Betsy Carter (Bryan Chambers); his sister Glenda Sneed (Odis); and his grandchildren, Cynthia Michelle Mathis, James Edward Mathis, Brittany Danielle Carter, Daniel Cruse and John Cruse. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 25th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home (138 Peachtree St, Murphy, NC 28906). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 25th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Townson-Rose Funeral Home Chapel (138 Peachtree St, Murphy, NC 28906).
