He was predeceased by : his parents, Robert Howell and Georgine Howell; his brother William Howell; his wife Elsie Deckard Howell; his son Daniel Howell; and his grandchildren, William "Rusty" Marshall, Joshua Howell and Amy Ortiz.

He is survived by : his sister Joyce Griffin; his children, Nancy, Ted Drake, Randy (Annette Howell), Holly (Joey Eaker) and Robbie (Kathy Howell); and his daughter-in-law Carla Howell. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, April 16th 2024 at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy (4334 US-64, Murphy, NC 28906).
