He was predeceased by: his parents, Pryor Hamby and Bessie Mashburn Hamby; his wife Mozell Graves Hamby; his sons, Edwin Hamby and Darrel Hamby; his siblings, John Clinton Hamby, Joe Hamby, Thomas Hamby, Gwendolyn Beavers, Lucy Truett, Ruby Mashburn and Alene Morrow; and his son-in-law Dennis Garmon.
He is survived by: his children, Ray Hamby, Randall Hamby (Wanda), Sheila Garmon and Glenda Hamby; his grandchildren, Sarah Herrington (Josh), Justin Garmon (Brooke) and Adam Garmon (Amy); his stepgranddaughters, Ginger Leitner (Jared) and Wendy Reece (Jason); his siblings, Dee Hamby (Pat) and Jewell Murphy; his sisters-in-law, Sue Graves and Ann Graves; his great grandchildren, Zoey, Ava, Jack Herrington, Madison and Avery Garmon; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Eli Carver, Skylar Gass, Aida Gass, Kaylen, Jocelyn and Lauren Reece.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Loving Memory of Thurman Hamby to the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 560 Hiwassee Dam Access Road, Murphy, NC 28906.
