He was predeceased by: his mother Lucy Vaughn Whitson; his son Sammy Whitson, Jr.; and his brother Ernest Whitson. He is survived by: his daughters, DeAnn Whitson and Brandy Whitson; and his siblings, Betty Curtis (Gary), Arlene Crowe (Norman) and Marty Hensley. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
