He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Smithwick Baker of New Bern; his children, Evander Wayne Baker III, James Baker of Suffolk, VA, William Baker of Charlotte, NC, Mary Baker of Boone, NC and Elizabeth Baker of Raleigh, NC; his grandchildren, William Baker of Washington, NC, Robert Baker and Jaime Baker of Arlington, VA.; his sister Reatha Baker Wilkins; and his niece Kristin Wilkins Kingsley.
