It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rebecca Irene Phelps Shinn Morton of New Bern, North Carolina, who passed away on January 7, 2026, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her former husband Jim Shinn; her fathers, Charles Phelps and Clyde Phelps; her stepfather George Wyatt; her grandsons, Lee Ronald and Alex Morton; Otis and Elsie Morton.
She is survived by: her husband Jim Morton; her children, Millie Shinn, Jim Shinn (Katrina) of Southport, NC and Chuck Shinn (Rhonda) of Newport, NC.; her stepchildren, Shelly Ronald (Peter) of Warrnambool, Brian Morton (Mary Lou) of Clermont, FL, Bob Morton of Boca Raton, FL and Bruce Morton (Jennifer) of Lake Stevens, WA.; and her great grandchildren, John Williard (Lori), Nora Williard, James Williard, Brittany Shrout (Ryan), Kinsley Shrout, Emelyn Shrout, Jake Shinn (Ally Williams), Katelyn DeFore (John), Alex Shinn, Morgan Morris (Casie), Blair Morris, Brynn Morris, Zach Morris, Chloe Morris, Mackenzie Morris, Matthew Morton (Robin), Lucy Morton, Evan Morton, Bryce Morton (Madison), Tyler Morton (Maddie), Everett Morton, Kelvin Morton (Kaylee) and Elise Morton.
