She was predeceased by: her parents, Carrie Lane and Arthur L. Whaley; her siblings, Elmer Whaley, Harold Whaley, Horace Whaley, Jack B. Whaley, Doris Whaley Stroud and Mary Frances Whaley Jones; her husband Jason A. Morris, Sr.; and her son Jason A. Morris, Jr. (Jay).
She is survived by: her daughter Jane Morris Purser; her grandchildren, John, Jared, Lindsey, Jack Purser and Ashley Bowers (Christopher); her great grandchildren, Troy, Selene Bowers and Capria Davis; her brother Arthur L. Whaley, Jr. of Kinston; her sister-in-law Dorothy B. Whaley of Kinston; her friends, Ava Gray and Marie Henderson; her close friend Evelyn Sauders; and her family, Drew Rhodes, Tim, Marjette Potter, Glenn, Angie Powell, Haywood and Susan Gillikin.
In lieu of flowers, Joyce has requested. Memorial donations be made to the Centenary Thru-the-Week (CTTW) School c/o Centenary UMC, P.O. Box 1388, New Bern, NC 28563, in her memory.
