He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Jackson and Ellen Jackson; and his wife Susan. He is survived by: his children, Fiona (Paul Cook) and Andrew (Lisa Warren); and his grandsons, Nicholas, Christopher, Jamie and Alastair. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the National Science Foundation or the Craven County Arts Council.
