He was predeceased by : his father Floyd Jackson Phillips; his wife Roxie Phillips; his son Alvin Ray Phillips; his siblings, Roger Grover Phillips and Bonnie Lee Troutman; and his granddaughter April Dawn White.
He is survived by : his daughter Judy Hatley (David) of New London, NC; his sister Shirley P. Smith of Albemarle, NC; his granddaughter Sarah Louise Lopez; and his great grandchild Stephanie Dawn Lopez.
