He was predeceased by: his father Clifford Paul Cox; his wife Ruby Cook Cox; and his siblings, Evelyn Cox Brown, Geraldine Cox May, Leon Cox and William "Bill" Cox.
He is survived by: his stepfather Grover H. Norton; his children, John "David" Cox, Jr. (Kelly) and Charisse Cox Cuthbertson (Larry); his grandchildren, Benjamin Cox, Michelle Cuthbertson South (Damon) and Devena McNeil; his great grandchildren, Sawyer, Wyatt Cox, Timber and Thistlee South; his brother-in-law Rick Cook; David Cox, Benjamin Cox, Michelle South, Damon South, John Kendrick and Dan South. He is also survived by dog and best friend "Molly" and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions in memory of J.D. & Ruby be made to Blue Ridge Partnership for Children.
