Barbara Hagan Yarling Obituary
Barbara “Barbie” Hagan Yarling, 56, of Newport, NC died peacefully Monday, July 2, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with her devoted husband and daughter holding her hands.
Barbie donated her body to science through MedCure and did not wish to have a funeral. All who loved her are welcome to gather from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at her home at 217 Nicholson Ave. in Newport to celebrate her life. Please try to wear purple, her favorite color, or anything referencing the fight against cancer. Wear a suit for the pool if you’d like.
Barbie was born into a U.S. Marine Corps family Feb. 20, 1962, in Great Lakes, Ill., but most of her life was spent on the East Coast. She touched the lives of many working hard in restaurants over the years, even co-owning one with her sister “Dot,” Dumplins, in Newport, a dream realized. She loved nothing more than spending time with her granddaughters, Aislinn and Celise and enjoyed “hanging by the pool,” surrounded by family and friends with good music and lots of laughs. Another soul is lost to cancer, a horrible disease.
She is survived by her husband, Richard “Ricky” Yarling of Newport, recently celebrating 29 years together and 22 years of marriage; her broken-hearted daughter, Shanna Howarth Hutton of Clayton; two beautiful granddaughters, Aislinn and Celise Hutton, both of Clayton; mother, Cecilia Hagan of Newport; three siblings, George and Robert Hagan, both of Newport, and Theodore “Ted” Hagan of Arizona; and two adopted ’sisters’, Maria Ladd of Raleigh and Mary Cranmer of Newport.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Hagan of Hagan’s Auto Salvage in Newport; and a sister, Dorothy Hagan of Newport, by only three and a half months, both to cancer.
The family asks that no flowers to be sent, as Barbie did not like waste. Donations for medical expenses are not asked for, but appreciated and can be sent to her husband at 217 Nicholson Ave. If you donate, please come visit family on Sunday for some barbecue and a laugh.
