She was predeceased by: her husband Nelson Chewning; her son Joseph Scott Chewning; her siblings, Claude Cecil Bowman Sr. and Gladys Bowman Ahmuty; and her parents, Claude Sewell Bowman and Louise Jones Bowman.
She is survived by: her children, Wanda Carroll (late Donnie), Nelson Bradley Chewning and Barry Chewning (Barbara Jean); her daughter-in-law Ruth Parker (late Joseph Scott) of Newport, NC; and her pet Missy. She is also survived by four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.
