He is survived by: his wife Alice Sims; his children, Kyle Sims and Michelle Sims Barringer; and his grandchildren, Oliver Sims, Oscar Sims, Kennedy Paylor, Camden Paylor and Jamison Paylor.
A memorial service was held on Friday, September 4th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery (110 Montford Landing Rd, Jacksonville, NC 28540).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Richard's memory to The Salvation Army.
