He was predeceased by: his parents, Hubert Carlton Thornton and Inez Hawley Thornton; his siblings, Janice Harding, Linda Jordan, Sue Harris and Phil Thornton; and his son Michael Thornton.
He is survived by: his wife Kay Thornton; his daughter Dena Mitchell (William) of Four Oaks; his daughter-in-law Melissa Thornton of Rosewood; his grandchildren, Hannah Scott (Chad) of Four Oaks and Kaden Thornton of Rosewood; his brothers, Glenn Thornton of Clinton and Clark Thornton of Pinelevel; and his great grandchildren, Bennett, Chance, Walker and Presley. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
