He was predeceased by: his parents, Miles Smyre and Vivian Carpenter Smyre; his wife Jewel Whisnant Smyre; and his siblings, Jack Smyre, Pauline Carpenter, Joan Caskey, Coline Ballard and Jeannette Mason.

He is survived by: his daughters, Nina Purkey (Mike) of Claremont, Jeannene Eller (Greg) of Newton, Libby Korn (Jeff) of Maiden and Mandy Gabriel (Aron) of Conover; and his grandchildren, Ryan Purkey, Trysten Gabriel, Layton Gabriel, Kisha Curtis, Tiffany Osborne, Amber Goodson, Macie Korn and Bethany Korn.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:45 PM at the Cornerstone Church (409 E Main St, Maiden, NC 28650). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 9th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.

Memorials may be made to Cornerstone Church of Maiden.
