She was predeceased by: her parents, Oscar Durham Barrs and Mittie Stacy Barrs; and her siblings, Louise Barrs, Martha B. Whisnant, Frances Creech, Susan Reed, Evelyn Nistal, Faye Ferland, Monnie Helton, Eula Coutu, James and Charles Barrs.
She is survived by: her son David Eugene McLaughlin (Susan); her granddaughters, Marie Sipe (Tracy) of Hickory and Kristy Watts (Kevin) of Hickory; and her sibling's children, Javita Anne McSwain (Jim Morgan) of Hickory, Carol Everhardt (John), Kathy Leonard, Sylvia Belhumeur, Peter G. Nistal, Marcel Ferland and James Ferland. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 22nd 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel (334 2nd St NW, Hickory, NC 28601).
