It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Johnny Hanks (Newton, North Carolina), born in Crowley, Louisiana, who passed away on September 18, 2025, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Felix Hanks and Elta Arabie Hanks; his wife Delores Jean Ford Hanks; his sons, Brian Hanks and Steven Young; his granddaughter Brook Wolfe; his great grandchildren, Riley and Sophie Adkins; and his siblings, Mary, Ina, Agnes, Mable, Joe and Eunice.
He is survived by: his children, Ree Bailey (Vance), Russell Hanks, Christine Hanks Wolfe (Michael) and Cheryl Hanks Taylor; and his grandchildren, Jared Bailey (Misty), Brandilyn Hanks, Brandon Bailey, Caleb Bailey, William, Rankin (Sabrina), Kelend Hawks, Brittany Sebastian (Charlie), Kaley Smith Chloe (Aaron), Keegan and Matthew Hanks.
Visitation was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Celebration Center of Jenkins Funeral Home (4081 Startown Rd, Newton, NC 28658). A celebration of life was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Jenkins Funeral Home (4081 Startown Rd, Newton, NC 28658).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Oxford Baptist Church in Conover.
