He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Payne and Mary Worley Payne; and his wife Sylvia Ann Payne. He is survived by: his son Patrick Ryan Payne of Oakboro; his siblings, Neal Payne of Gettysburg, Charles Payne of Mills River, Marsha Keys of Asheville and Lynda Coates of Taylor; his grandchildren, Patrick Ian Payne of Oakboro and Olivia Anne Payne of Oakboro; and his close friend Frances Sloan of Locust.
Visitation was held on Sunday, July 26th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Stanly Funeral & Cremation Care (501 N Central Ave, Locust, NC 28097). A graveside service was held on Monday, July 27th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Gosnell Family Cemetery (268 Arvil Gosnell Rd, Marshall, NC 28753).
