He was predeceased by: his parents, John Buxton Pleasants Sr. and Thelma Burchette Pleasants. He is survived by: his son Jeffrey Brian Pleasants (Toni) of Oxford; his sister Mildred Jones of Greensboro; his grandchildren, Jonathan Pleasants (Grace) and Sarah Pleasants (Jon Whiltney); his great grandchildren, Jessie Pleasants and Emily Whitney; and his close friend Kay Starks. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his memory to Salem Methodist Church.
