With solemn reverence, we commemorate Joan Oakes of Oxford, North Carolina, whose life came to an end on July 28, 2025 at the age of 88, leaving behind cherished memories. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Willis Austin Jenkins and Evelyn Jane Beddingfield Jenkins; her husband Franklin Hunter Oakes; and her sister Sonya Woodard. She is survived by: her children, Barry Oakes (Lisa) and Joan Claiborne (Timmy); her grandchildren, Hunter Oakes, Spencer Claiborne (Faith), Haley Ramsey (Devin) and Cole Claiborne; and her brothers, Sherwood Jenkins (Joyce) and Jeff Jenkins (Janet). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31st 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford Thursday (106 Clement Ave, Oxford, NC 27565). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 31st 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Sossamon Funeral Home - Oxford (106 Clement Ave, Oxford, NC 27565).
