She was predeceased by: her parents, Claude Avance Sampson and Mary Sampson (Locklear); her husband Harry L. Alway; her siblings, Lynwood Sampson and Linda DuBois; and her brothers-in-law, Don Alway (Sara) and Charlie Gorman.
She is survived by: her son Michael Alway (Jean); her siblings, Levonda Rowe (Gary), Lee Edward Sampson and Claude A. Sampson Jr. (Rosa); her siblings-in-law, Leland DuBois, Russell Alway (Patty), Arleen Cranston and Freda Gorman; and her grandchildren, Emily, Rebecca, Luke and Jessica Alway. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation or the Givens Performing Arts Center at UNCP.
