He was predeceased by: his parents, John J. Brooks and Lela Hammonds Brooks; and his siblings, Stephen Andrew Brooks, John Mark Brooks, Earl Cardell Brooks, Judge Sandy Dexter Brooks and Maggie Brooks Mercer.
He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth Brooks; his children, Devy Levine Bell (Karen), Lela Brooks Woodell (Jerry), Larry Trent Brooks II (Nikki), John Avery Brooks and Latisha Sullivan (Rodney); his grandchildren, Gavin Bell, Taylor Locklear, Kevin Chavis, Dawson Brooks, Pacey Brooks, McKenzie Woodell Bullard, Addison Sullivan, Branlon Brooks, Braylon Brooks, Xander Brooks, Kale Woodell, Xoan Brooks, Kade Woodell and Xuli Brooks; his sister Vivian "Vib" Atha; and his close friend Bobby Locklear. He is also survived by relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, March 7th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Harper's Ferry Baptist Church (1549 Harpers Ferry Rd, Maxton, NC 28364). A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 7th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Saturday, March 7th 2026 at the S. A. Hammond Family Cemetery.
