She was predeceased by: her parents, Harvey Harper and Magdalene Harper; her siblings, Leamon, Lemuel, Iris and Daisy; and her close friend Billy Brown.
She is survived by: her children, Carol Hoover (Danny), Richard Beyer and Paula Allen (Tim); her grandchildren, Jessica Locke (Chris), Riley Hoover, Madison Howard (Justin), Mary Grace Beyer and Colton Allen; her great grandchildren, Cole Locke, Carter Locke, Mason Howard and Jackson Howard; and her sister Ada Moody (Kenneth). She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Memorial donations may also be made to Harper Southerland Presbyterian Church in memory of Melda and mailed to 279 Bland Howell Road, Kinston, NC 28504.
