He was predeceased by : his parents, Jodie Jackson Johnson and Allie Williams Johnson; and his siblings, Jack Johnson, Red Johnson and Sandy Joe Johnson.

He is survived by : his wife Mollie Ann Morris Johnson; his sons, Shorty Johnson, Jr. (Tammy) of Siler City and Charles Johnson, Sr. of Sumter, SC; his sister Crystal Faye Long of Pittsboro; his sister-in-law Janice Johnson of Pittsboro; and his grandchildren, Shenoah Buford (Christian), Nyckolas Johnson, Charles Johnson, Jr. (Jay), Tyler Davis, Abbey Davis, Kendall Mitchell and Jake Mitchell.
