In the vast expanse of eternity, Eleanor shall find rest, cradled in the arms of everlasting peace. And as we bid Eleanor farewell, her loved ones carry with them the precious gift of her memory, a beacon of hope guiding them through the shadows of sorrow towards the light of a new dawn.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Lumis Bynum and Roberta Emerson Bynum; her former husband Lynwood P. Dowdy Sr.; and her son Lynwood P. Dowdy, Jr.. She is survived by: her children, Ronald Allen Dowdy (Annette) of Wilson, NC, Sandra Dowdy (Joe) of Greensboro, NC, Ruth Jeanette Dowdy of Sanford, NC, Denise Dowdy Simpson (Robert) of Winston-Salem, NC. and Sheila Jones of Atlanta, GA.; and her sisters, Robena "Angelet" Harris of Greensboro, NC and Bertha Mae Dowdy. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Viewing was held on Monday, October 6th 2025 from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM at the Knotts Funeral Home (719 Wall St, Sanford, NC 27330). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 7th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the First Calvary Baptist Church (240 Fields Dr, Sanford, NC 27330).
