He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Lewis Champion and Lela Blanche Benton Champion; and his wife Judith Carolyn Beasley Champion. He is survived by: his sons, Howard Joseph Wood Jr. of Smithfield, Joseph Michael Champion of Wilmington and Peter Jamison Champion (Donna) of Wilmington; his sister Lela Robinson of Kelly; his grandchildren, Joseph (Kelsey), Wesley (Stefanie), Dawn (Justin), Nikki, J. T. and Hayden; and his great grandchildren, Brayden, Finley, Durkio, Cohen, Zoey, Devin, Jon and Vinny. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
