In the soft embrace of remembrance, we recall the profound impact Athel had on those he encountered along his journey. Though Athel may have slipped beyond the veil of mortality, his essence lingers like a faint fragrance in the air, a lingering reminder of the beauty and complexity of the human experience.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Guy Canyon and Nellie Mikeal Phillips of Wilkes County; his wife Patsy Ann Eller; his children, Alisa Phillips of North Wilkesboro and Kevin Phillips Sr. (Susie) of Mooresville; his grandchildren, Alison Long (Charlie) of Charlotte and Kevin Phillips Jr. of Boone; his great grandchild Evelyn Rose Long of Charlotte; and his sisters, Emma Jean Payne of North Wilkesboro and Madylene Walsh of Winston-Salem.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 5th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery (1286 New Hope Rd, Purlear, NC 28665).
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
