He was predeceased by: his parents, Blanche Elks and Charlie Elks; his wives, Barbara Owens Elks and Zelma Woolard Elks; and his son Bryant Elks.

He is survived by: his sons, Keith Elks (Debra) of Beaufort, NC and Tom Elks (Pam) of Raleigh, NC; his daughter-in-law Ann Elks of New Orleans, LA; and his brother-in-law Ben Woolard (Benita) of Washington, NC.. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Springmoor Endowment fund, or Forest Hill Baptist Church.
