He was predeceased by : his parents, William Jefferson Alley and Nena Mae Hopkins; his former life partner Nancy Holland Alley; his son Michael Lee Alley; and his brothers, Norman Alley and Dennis Alley.

He is survived by : his wife Anne; his son Joseph Dewey Alley (Mary Pat) of Youngsville; and his sister Edna Andrews of Greensboro.

“Dewey talked me into building a Habitat house in a week in 1989. That was the inspiration for Habitat’s Home Builder Blitz in which close to 4000 homes have been built by professional home builders in 150 different cities for no cost or low cost to Habitat although the homes were sold to a deserving homeowner with a no interest mortgage. Those 4000 Habitat homeowners lives have been incredibly changes due to Dewey’s vision as have many others. Dewey was a remarkably good man. Tom Gipson”
