He is survived by: his wife Kathy; his daughters, Dr. Katie Barrett (Tom) of Raleigh and Betsy Simerville (Bill) of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Hanna, Louisa Barrett, Will, Jackson and Walker Simerville; and his sister Karyl Walls of Durham. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

He was a talented diagnostician who truly cared for each pet that came into his care. His kind and gentle hands were the same behind the scene, he loved his work. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. I raise a glass in his honor and wish him many successful hunts on the other side.”
