Though Henry may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Henry touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Arthur Helms, Sr. and Zelian Hunter Helms. He is survived by: his wife Donnie Rebecca Hicks Helms; his children, Howard Brent Helms (Linda Lovely Helms) and Elizabeth Helms Altherr (Edward R. Altherr); his grandson Benjamin Edward Altherr; his sister-in-law Nancy Hicks Kelley; his nephew Dr. James Edward Kelley, II; and his niece Dr. Whitney Kelley Swann.
In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Henry's lifelong commitment to education, the family requests that contributions be made to the Hayes Barton Baptist Church Scholarship Fund.
