He is survived by: his daughter LaShonda Ryals; his grandson David Darrell Ryals; his siblings, James Ryals (Mae), H. Cornelious McDougald, Ernestine C. Scott (Perry), Eunice C. Walker and Larry C. McKoy (Elaine); and his niece Lasharronda C. Harris (Henri). He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Viewing was held on Thursday, December 4th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Steven L Lyons Funeral Home (1515 New Bern Ave, Raleigh, NC 27610).

I wanted to share a few words in honor of my grandfather, because he meant more to me than anyone will ever fully know. As an adult adoptee, I didn’t grow up with childhood memories of my grandfather. But I was blessed with the chance to form a relationship with him as an adult, and those moments will stay with me forever.”
